Wow. May disappeared in a blink, and now I find myself departing for WisCon34 bright and early tomorrow morning.

So I guess I better post my schedule. There are some great panels this year and I’ve been lucky to find myself on some of them.

Here is where I’m scheduled to be. Other than the below, I will be here (bar), there (bar), and everywhere (bar).

The Craft of Writing YA

Description: What demands of craft are particular to the YA genre? What experiences are YA readers looking for and what pitfalls should writers new to YA avoid?
Location: Wisconsin
Schedule: Sat, 10:00–11:15 am
Panelists: Mod: Ellen Klages. Sharyn November, Sarah B. Prineas, Derek Molata, Karen Elizabeth Healey

6 Feet Long With Spikes: What Makes a Good Writer’s Group?

Description: Do deadlines help? What about rules? What do you do about the clueless or really bad writer in your group? How can an only POC or woman keep from being “the spokesperson”? What do you do when members don’t realize or won’t admit how sexist or racist they are?
Location: Conference 4
Schedule: Sat, 4:00–5:15 pm
Panelists: Mod: Jennifer Pelland. Margaret Ronald, Ada Milenkovic Brown, Rachel Virginia Swirsky, Karin Lowachee, Derek Molata

Treatment of Aging in Science Fiction and Fantasy Redux

Description: An excellent discussion last year concluded that the middle–aged and elderly are underrepresented, and often unrealistically presented, in SF/F. What can we do about this? Is SF a young persons’ genre, or can we represent people of all ages realistically?
Location: Capitol B
Schedule: Sun, 10:00–11:15 am
Panelists: Mod: Sandra McDonald. Carol F. Emshwiller, Derek Molata, Cynthia Gonsalves, Nonie B. Rider

Let’s Build a World

Description: Whether it’s for movies, TV, literature, or games of all kinds, creative people in SF&F have to build their worlds up from scratch. Let’s see how they do it. This perennial panel will start with some categories (tech level, economic system, climate, races, etc.), get ideas about each of them from the audience, select the best ideas in each category, then watch the panelists figure out how to make them work together.
Location: 629
Schedule: Sun, 1:00–2:15 pm
Panelists: Mod: Benjamin Rosenbaum. Victoria Gaydosik, Yoon Ha Lee, Derek Molata, David D. Levine

Your Writing Process Is Ridiculous!

Description: Whenever writers gather, there comes a point where one describes her writing process and another looks at her and says, “If I tried to write like that, my brain would turn inside out.” Outliners, seat–of–the–pantsers, write–the–end–firsters… there are nine and sixty ways, and some of them are extremely strange. Let’s all baffle each other with our most bizarre process stories.
Location: Senate B
Schedule: Sun, 2:30–3:45 pm
Panelists: Mod: Richard Chwedyk. Kelly Jones, Alma Alexander, Greer Gilman, Ellen Klages, Derek Molata
